History

Maiser was someone who always wanted to do good in his chaotic world. Inspired by his childhood friend, Selena, Maiser decided to do good to the people he cared about. When he was old enough, he applied to become a deputy, but he barely passed despite being a perfect shot. Vincent was impressed by Maiser's magical abilities, Ignition, which powers up his shots by heating up the bullets, and Acceleration, which drastically increases the speed of fired bullets and physical movement. Maiser spent the first part of becoming a deputy catching criminals and helping the citizens of Rivayle. However, when one of the criminals he hunted took a hostage, the hostage broke free and tried to run, but was killed when she accidently jumped in the way of Maiser's shot when he tried to disarm the criminal when he came after her with a knife. Blaming himself for the woman's death, Maiser found himself unable to draw his gun due to guilt and tried to leave the police, but Vincent convinced him to stay. Maiser was comforted by the police and citizens alike, and Selena took care of the hostage's orphaned children at the church, but Maiser's guilt never went away and he searched for a way to pay penance.

Fate's Trigger

Maiser chases after a criminal working for Iceshillendrig, but is unable to catch up to him due to his refusal to draw his gun. When the criminal begins taunting him, Maiser gains the motivation to catch up and subdue the criminal bare handed. Maiser returns to the sherrif's building where the sherrif, Vincent, berates him for nearly letting the criminal getting away due to being distract by helping various people. Vincent sends Maiser to report the incident and another deputy offers to take him to lunch later. While talking to some citizens on the way to lunch, Maiser hears a scream and follows it. On the way, he encounters Nahtnaught, the Titan of Force, who denies being the cause of the scream despite Maisers' suspicions. Nahtnaught takes her leave, and another deputy warns Maiser against confronting Nahtnaught for fear of her power. Frustrated, Maiser goes off on patrol with the deputy.

During patrol, Maiser interrupts a mugging and the thief flees. While chasing the thief, Maiser is forced to fight when the thief draws a gun. Maiser manages to injury the thief but is forced to dodge his gun with his magic, giving the thief an opportunity to escape. The thief tries to take a passing Arisa as a hostage as she searches for the sherrif's office. The thief reveals he stole to pay back a debt to Iceshillendrig, but before Maiser can take action to save Arisa she defeats the thief on her own. Maiser and another deputy arrest the thief and Arisa asks Maiser to take her to the sheriff, revealing she is from another world. Maiser introduces himself and offers to take Arisa on a tour of Rivayle.

While showing Arisa around Rivayle and decides the next stop on the tour is the church and introduces Arisa to Selena. Selena is suspicious of Arisa, but Maiser vouges for her and they join Selena for lunch.

After lunch, Arisa asks Maiser if he's seen her allies, but neither Selena nor Maiser has heard anything about them. The conversation is interrupted by a deputy, who reveals the criminals Maiser previously caught have revealed troubling news and he needs Maiser at the sheriff's office. Maiser leaves to address the situation and leaves Arisa with Selena, much to the latter's displeasure. At the sheriff's office, Vincent explains the criminals Maiser caught were linked to Iceshillendrig and owed him money, causing them to commit thefts to pay their debts in order to escape Iceshillendrig's wrath. Vincent orders Maiser to investigate Iceshillendrig and find out his motive for his actions, warning him that he will have to likely draw his gun on this mission despite his fears about using it.

Maiser starts his mission by investigating the Spurred On restaurant, where criminals are known to hang out. However, when he arrives, the restaurant is closed because of Nahtnaught killing two customers. Maiser asks the owner about Iceshillendrig's actions and learns Iceshillendrig has been conducting expensive and suspicious activies. The owner also reveals a pair of bandits called Bunny and Baron have been robbing Iceshillendrig's trains and have been gaining recognition from the people of Rivayle. Afterward, a citizen informs Maiser she saw Iceshillendrig's henchman gathering in a nearby alley and Maiser goes to investigate. He finds Iceshillendrig's henchmen are preparing to raid Bunny and Baron's hideout using information bribed from one of Nahtnaught's henchmen. Maiser confronts them and threatens to report them to Vincent unless they take him to Iceshillendrig.

Maiser is brought to Iceshillendrig and he questions him about the actions of his henchmen. Iceshillendrig declares that Rivayle belongs to him and he can take any action he wants inside it. Maiser objects to Iceshillendrig's declaration, but after a show of intimidation by Iceshillendrig, he moves on and allows Maiser to ask questions . Maiser asks Iceshillendrig why he is gathering so much money, but Iceshillendrig tries to intimidate him again by making it clear he can kill Maiser whenever he wants, but Maiser realizes that Iceshillendrig's intimidations are disguising his desperation to keep his plans secret and that he can't afford to waste his resources currently hunting for Bunny and Baron to kill him. To get Maiser to leave, Icechillendrig admits he is gathering money from debtors and hunting Bunny and Baron, but refuses to disclose anything else. Iceshillendrig sends Maiser away and sends out for someone to trail Maiser and kill him if he presents a threat to his plans.

Maiser calms himself down after his harrowing encounter with Iceshillendrig and decides to rest at the church. Another deputy finds him and learns of his encounter with Iceshillendrig. The conversation is interrupted when the two see a sick woman begging to be let on the train to get a doctor in the Golden Hills, but is cruelly rejected by the guard. Maiser wishes to do something, but the deputy advises him not to anger Iceshillendrig further and pulls him away. Maiser is ordered to report to Vincent, but he detours to the church. There, he sees Selena isn't there and meets with the church Abbess. He expresses his frustrations with the way Rivayle is and the Abbess encourages him to have faith. On the way to the sheriff's office, Maiser encounters a Wretch, creatures that have been popping up across Rivayle, that somehow knows his name and attacks.

Maiser's physical strikes fail to hurt the Wretch and he can't bring himself to draw his gun. When the Wretch corners him, Selena saves him. Selena advises Maiser to stay away from the alleys the Wretches have been appearing in and informs him Iceshillendrig is preparing some kind of ritual, though she doesn't reveal how she got that information. Selena returns to the church and Maiser continues heading the sheriff's office to report to Vincent.

On the way to the sheriff's office, a citizen informs Maiser that Iceshillendrig's henchmen are attacking a man whose face is unseeable. Maiser decides to go save the man despite the consequences and finds the battle. Determined not to let a citizen die on his watch again, Maiser joins the fight and helps the cloaked man, who is actually Baron, get away. Iceshillendrig's henchmen attack him for interfering, but Maiser draws his gun and unleashes his Acceleration Magic. With his true power unleashed and the henchmen being unable to reinforcements from their garrison, Maiser defeats them. However, Iceshillendrig arrives and reveals that he will not stand for Bunny and Baron's defiance against him, even if they have allied with Nahtnaught, and declares war is brewing. He then decides to reclaim the damages Maiser inflicted on him and unleashes his power against him. Maiser tries to retaliate, but his bullets won't activate because they were made by Iceshillendrig's syndicate. Before Iceshillendrig can use more of his power on Maiser, Vincent arrives and uses his own power to restraint Iceshillendrig. Maiser collapses from the curse Iceshillendrig inflicted on him and Vincent apologizes for putting him in such a situation but is more concerned about the upcoming war between the Titans.

Maiser awakens in the sheriff's office, but is still feeling the effects of Iceshillendrig's curse. Vincent reveals Rivayle has broken out into war with Nahtnaught's forces fighting Iceshillendrig's, with Bunny and Baron fighting alongside Nahtnaught to kill Iceshillendrig and take his position as a Titan. However, Maisher wishes to stop the conflict and Vincent puts him on probation, freeing him from the police's obligation of neutrality and allowing him to act on his own terms.

Fate's Trigger: Conclusion

Maiser discovers the fighting has started breaking out, but the worst has yet to come. Nahtnaught arrives with her forces and begins intensifying the conflict. Maiser decides to focus on evacuating civilians to keep them out of harms way. Maiser evacuates civilians to the church while he fends of Iceshillendrig's henchman with his renewed marksmanship. Selena continues interrogating Iceshillendrig's henchmen, but can't drag out any solid details. She discovers Maiser is fighting and saves him from a sneak attack. She reveals she is targeting Iceshillendrig and teams up with Maiser when more henchmen attack.

Suddenly, Zecilwenshe attacks Arisa, Maiser, Selena, Bunny, Baron, and Illganeau simultaneously through different bodies. Maiser and Selena fight off one of Zecilwenshe's bodies, but they become surrounded by wretches. After the kill the wretches, Zecilwenshe returns in a new body and reveals Bunny is tearing through his other bodies. He then reveals that the two have been killing civilians he has possessed, leaving Maiser distraught. Selena tries to convince Maiser the deaths are a trick by Zecilwenshe and the two attack him.

After fighting for a bit, Maiser prepares to fire a finishing shot against Zecilwenshe's bodies, but at the last second, he leaves the possessed bodies so they are hit instead. Selena tries to convince a horrified Maiser that the deaths are still just a trick. Zecilwenshe proves he can possess and leaves the bodies of others at will, leaving Maiser distraught. Selena kills Zecilwenshe's last body in the area and tries to convince Maiser he didn't do anything wrong. However, Maiser unable to stand the remorse of killing innocent people and forces an unwilling Selena to shoot him as penance. As Selena grieves over the death of the one person she cared about, she shoots herself to join him.

The Final Loop

In a new cycle, during Selena and Maiser's battle against Zecilwenshe, the latter feels pain from Kagero's attack. Maiser prepares to fire at Zecilwenshe and the latter prepares to reveal something, but is killed by Drache. Selena is distrustful of Drache and Zecilwenshe rises in another body to reveal her anger is because she is trying to keep Maiser from learning that he has been killing innocent citizens that Zecilwenseh has been possessing. Zecilwenshe escapes after slitting the throat of the body he is currently possessing and despite Selena's attempts to convince Maiser otherwise, he learns the truth of his actions. Drache confirms the reality of the situation and Selena, angered at Drache's meddling, aims her gun at him. Despite not wanting to fight and Selena's threat, Drache refuses to take back his words about reality about how people have died. In a desperate attempt to keep Maiser from accepting the reality of his actions, Selena attacks Drache. Despite Maiser's attempts to calm her, Selena drags him into the fight against Drache, but Drache expresses his anger at the situation he is in and the two refusing to accept reality and fights back.

Drache proves to be resilient against Selena and Maiser's magic and continues declaring that people have died by the two's hands during their fight with Zecilwenshe. Maiser stops Selena's attempts to deny reality and accepts what he has done and explains to Drache how he accidently killed a woman in the past and how it affected him. Drache shares memories of cycles where he killed his clan and loved ones and accuses Maiser of pushing his need for forgiveness onto others. He then condemns Selena for trying to hide Maiser from reality and tells Maiser that his sins are not meant for judgement but a burden he must carry. He then asks them about the trial of Rivayle and Maiser explains they are after Iceshillendrig, giving Drache a sense of direction. Before leaving, Drache tells Maiser and Selena they must face their actions instead of hiding from them. Though distraught by the ordeal, Selena decides to continue going after Iceshillendrig to end his reign, brushing off Maiser when he tries to come with her. Maiser apologizes to those he's killed and promises to bear his sins and protect Selena.

Selena and Maiser witness the rising conflict and Maiser realize Vincent is planning on finishing the fight on Iceshillendrig's side. Selena is angered by Vincent's duplicity and insists they leave Rivayle until the dust settles but Maiser insists on staying to intervene. When he and Selena argue, Selena hints towards the assassinations she committed. Maiser, realizing she was the one protecting him, thanks Selena for all she has done for him, but makes it clear he won't stand by and will try and reason with Vincent. Before the two can argue further, a wretch monster and Iceshillendrig's henchmen attack and Masier, having full regained his confidence in himself, shoots them. He tells Selena he wants to shoulder the burdens she is carrying, having gained his resolve to protect her. Maiser leaves to find Vincent and Selena is found by the church Abbess.

While searching for Vincent, a deputy tries to warn him that Vincent is past the point of being dissuaded, but Maiser isn't deterred and continues his mission. Drache continues fighting Vincent, despite being overpowered, and Vincent recognizes that they are both running out of magic. The battle is interrupted by Maiser, but Vincent, aware of his reasons for coming, tells him he will not back down. Vincent offers to let Maiser walk away if he gives up, but Maiser refuses and fights alongside Drache. The battle against Vincent is also interrupted by the Shades and Vincent leaves to address the problem while Maiser and Drache fight the Shades.

Drache and Maiser become overwhelmed by the number of Shades and Drache determines that they must stop their leader. While fighting, Drache condemns Maiser for letting his feelings about Selena distract him and urges him to come forward with them to her. A giant Shade attacks the two and Drache takes it on alone while Maiser goes to find Selena. While searching, Maiser is attacked by another giant Shade and manages to defeat it but is saved from a smaller Shade by Selena. Selena explains she was leading people to safety but is angry at Maiser for running off earlier. She rants about how she did everything she could to help Maiser, only for him to risk himself, but Maiser tells Selena he loves her. Selena is still frustrated at Maiser's previous ignorance of her feelings and her guilty from her assassinations, but Maiser embraces her, tells her he shares the same guilt, and admits she means everything to him. Reconciled, Maiser and Selena hold off the Shades to defend Rivayle.

Vincent and Nahtnaught are overpowered by Iceshillendrig and Zecilwenshe, having grown stronger with Iceshillendrig's new power, overwelms Illganeau. Nahtnaught summons Kagero, Sekka, Drache, Maiser, and Selena to the battle using her power and Vincent uses his power to heal and empower everyone for the battle. Everyone's combined efforts bring Iceshillendrig the brink of defeat, but they are wary dealing the final blow for fear of Iceshillendrig's Reclaimation taking their lives in exchange. To get rid of Iceshillendrig forever, Illganeau offers to kill him and be brought down to prevent him from possessing another vessel. She kills Iceshillendrig and he prepares to take her body as her new vessel. Before the other titans can kill Illganeau before she is fully possessed, Maiser discovers Illganeau is resisting his possession.

After the battle's end, Rivaayle has become much more peaceful and Maiser proposes to Selena, but she teasingly rejects his offer but promises to accept one day.

Whispers of Purgation: Last Words

Maiser rushes off to do his job as deputy in charge in Vincent's place, while preparing a meal with Selena talking about how things have been going since Nexus reappeared in Rivayle and took Vincent, Nahtnaught and Illganeau away, leaving the place with no one to put things in order. As the Abess, children and other townspeople have already left on the train, the two talk about how Rivayle is changing after Iceschillendrig's defeat and how happy they are to be together, though the current situation leads Selena to lose her faith in the gods. Maiser gives Selena a ring to make up for their wedding ceremony, and Selena tells him that they should put their regrets aside and look toward Rivayle's future.

Bunny and Baron meet up with Maiser and Selena at the church, eating together in surprise that they are no longer separated by vigilantes and criminals, but by those who want to save Rivayle. When discussing how to confront Nexus, Maiser confirms that only the four of them remain after completing the evacuation of everyone in Rivayle, both the poor and the rich. Bunny and Baron say that their strategy is to simply kill Nexus, but that although they no longer have the Fate's Bullet, the fact that Fleauesse created it makes it of divine origin, just like the Titans. Thus, what they have to do is become Titans themselves by inheriting their powers. In an old journal with records of all the Titans that have ever existed, they find a ritual called the "Song of Heaven and Earth" used to transmit the power of a Titan, however this comes with the risk of dying from not being able to withstand the Titans' mana as well as the cost of the previous Titan's life.

Illganeau suddenly arrives, cheering everyone who thought she was dead after the battle with Nexus. Illganeau reveals that the third line does in fact exist, but that it will not save the other Titans, something she knows thanks to Iceschillendrig, who appears in a ghostly form, making everyone tense. Illganeau reveals that after being defeated by Nexus, she spent time wandering the world between life and death, finding Iceschillendrig there and bringing him back with her inside her body in exchange for him helping them with what he knows. Although everyone is hesitant to trust him, Illganeau tells them that it's their only option. Iceschillendrig then reveals the third line of the ritual, that as long as there's a Titan present, it can be carried out without the other two and that it is a way that they can avoid dying during it, but only if they're willing to let Vincent and Nahtnaught die.

As Nexus returns to Rivayle, Illganeau is left to fight her army of Shades while Bunny, Baron, Maiser, and Selena take on the Keeper. The four attack Nexus, but are powerless against her. This is until Baron summons Nahtnaught's Boxing Magic and Maiser uses Vincent's Magic. However, Nexus notes that they both only have half of each Titan's power, with Baron only being able to use it in his right hand and Maiser only adding speed to his Ignition. However, Bunny and Selena reveal that they have the other half of the powers, as the Titans' heritage was split evenly into two so that they could resist it at the cost of reduced power. Although Nexus doesn't believe they have the power to oppose him, they combine their abilities in a number of ways. Selena combines her magic with Maiser's using Vincent's commands, Bunny gives Maiser's bullets even more acceleration by putting them in her box and releasing them, Baron expands Selena's sugar bullets into fire bombs, and Maiser gains mobility by getting into Baron's casualties and sharing his Acceleration with him. Gaining the upper hand, they claim that they will overcome her because humans have within them the ability to create a new future. Growing more confused and furious, Nexus decides to use the power of Fury once again to turn back time.

Nexus does another of her Reset and Restart, but time suddenly stops without her doing so. Illganeau appears declaring that there will be no time left, revealing that time is not asleep but "stagnated", which Iceschillendrig accomplished. Thus, as soon as he saw that Nexus would use her power over time, Baron sent a signal through the seal to begin the ceremony that would inherit the power of the three Titans. The two declare that the future of Rivayle belongs to their people before setting time running again. The five warriors join forces and destroy Nexus for good. Arisa returns from her imprisonment to find that her allies have won.

Vincent reconciles with Maiser, saying that he's proud of what he's accomplished and that he hopes the two can work together rebuilding Rivayle until the day he becomes his successor, though Maiser asks for some time off to finally celebrate his wedding with Selena.
